In cosmetics, the purchase decision is made in seconds, often as much by touch as by sight. A well-chosen finish shifts the perceived value of a product—sometimes more than a change in formula. Here are six finishes and the shelf impact of each.
1. Hot foil stamping
The application of a metallic film (gold, silver, copper, holographic) using heat and pressure. It's the ultimate premium signal: a foiled logo catches the light and says 'high-end' before a single word is read.
2. Embossing / Debossing
A raised (embossed) or recessed (debossed) design, without ink. Touch does the work: the brand is felt at the fingertips. Sublime when combined with hot foil stamping (foil embossing).
3. Soft-touch lamination
A velvety, soft, and matt finish. It instantly transforms the in-hand feel and hides fingerprints. A must-have for skincare and fragrance brands.
4. Spot UV varnish
A gloss varnish applied only to specific areas: a pattern, a word, a texture. The gloss/matt contrast creates depth and guides the eye.
5. Die-cutting and windows
A die-cut shape or a window that reveals the product inside. It creates a sense of discovery and provides reassurance about the contents—valuable for both e-commerce and in-store retail.
6. Pantone spot colours
For perfect brand colour fidelity, which is impossible to achieve with four-colour process printing (CMYK). Batch-to-batch colour consistency is a mark of professionalism. At Printivo, these six finishes are produced in-house in Casablanca—we can advise you on the combination that serves your market positioning without inflating your budget.
